Would 3rd time be a charm for Romney? Like Hillary Clinton on the
other side, he ran and failed to get the nomination, then ran and won the nomination but lost the election. Wouldn't that be something IF Clinton and Romney were the nominees?
Strength: IF he could get back to his 2008 mantra of being the "Conservative Alternative" then maybe. Except he has become so Establishment / anti-Republican primary voter that will now be difficult as he is the one whom a "Conservative Alternative" is needed.
Weakness: As the lead Anti-Trump Republican in the Senate he pretty much blew any chance for a comeback. Bashing your own President more than the guy in the opposition party you ran against for the Presidency isn't a good way to garner votes from your parties base voters.
