GREG ABBOTT
REPUBLICAN
Too Late?
Abbott was once a rising star more than a decade ago. As attorney General of Texas he seemed headed for the White House one day. But as governor--he waited too long to lead. He acted more as a caretaker -- then came DeSantis doing rather than talking. Now Abbott follows DeSantis' lead--but is it too little too late? Did Abbott wait too long to try and be a leader?
Strength: Any Republican statewide office holder from Texas should be able to raise serious cash. IF Texas were to be a Super Tuesday state like last time--that's a treasure trove of delegates under one's belt. He has made a good name for himself on the border crises--but did he wait too long?
Weakness: He doesn't seem to be clicking at the national level like some others. He seems to be following DeSantis' lead rather than being his own leader--so why pick him when you can pick the real DeSantis?
